Privacy Policy

1. Overview

Shamrock ("we," "us," or "our") is a personal finance dashboard that helps you track your accounts, net worth, and spending in one place. We take your privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights with respect to that information.

By using Shamrock, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

2. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect your name and email address through our authentication provider, Clerk. We do not store passwords directly.

Financial Data via Plaid

Shamrock uses Plaid Technologies, Inc. ("Plaid") to connect to your financial institutions. When you link a bank or financial account, Plaid retrieves data on our behalf, including:

  • Account names, types, and balances
  • Transaction history (amounts, dates, merchants, and categories)
  • Institution names and routing information

By connecting your accounts, you also agree to Plaid's End User Privacy Policy. Plaid's privacy policy describes how Plaid collects, uses, and shares your personal information when you use Plaid-powered services.

We do not store your bank credentials. Your login credentials are entered directly into Plaid's secure interface and are never transmitted to or stored by Shamrock.

Usage Data

We may collect basic usage information such as browser type, pages visited within the app, and error logs to improve the service. This data is not linked to your financial information.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect solely to provide and improve the Shamrock service:

  • Display your account balances, transactions, and net worth within the dashboard
  • Calculate and chart financial trends over time
  • Send you a weekly email digest of your financial summary (if enabled)
  • Process subscription payments through Stripe
  • Diagnose and fix technical issues

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal or financial data with any third party for advertising, marketing, or any commercial purpose unrelated to providing this service.

4. Third-Party Services

Shamrock integrates with the following third-party services to deliver core functionality:

Each of these providers operates under their own privacy policies and security standards. We encourage you to review them.

5. Data Retention

We retain your financial data for as long as your account is active. Transaction and balance data retrieved through Plaid is stored in our database to power your dashboard history.

If you disconnect a financial institution, we stop fetching new data from that institution. Historical data previously retrieved may remain in your account unless you request deletion.

6. Your Rights and Choices

You have the following rights with respect to your data:

  • Access: Request a copy of the data we hold about you.
  • Correction: Ask us to correct inaccurate personal information.
  • Deletion: Request that we delete your account and all associated data.
  • Disconnection: Revoke Plaid's access to your financial institutions at any time from the Settings page.
  • Opt-out of emails: Disable the weekly digest from the Settings page at any time.

7. Security

We use industry-standard security practices to protect your data, including encrypted connections (TLS), row-level security in our database, and token-based authentication. Financial credentials are never stored by Shamrock — they remain with Plaid.

No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately.

8. Children's Privacy

Shamrock is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. For material changes, we will notify you by email or through a notice in the app. Continued use of Shamrock after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
